Some children don’t need louder voices or stricter rules. They need someone steady. Someone who shows up every day and doesn’t give up when things feel tricky.

We’re working with a specialist SEN school in Gateshead that’s looking for a 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to support a pupil who thrives with consistency, patience, and trust. This is a school that understands behaviour is communication and values the adults who take the time to listen.

Your role will be to support one pupil throughout the school day, helping them feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn in a way that works for them. You’ll be part of a close-knit team who support each other just as much as the pupils.

What your days might look like:

  • Offering calm, consistent 1:1 support tailored to the pupil’s needs

  • Helping with emotional regulation, routines, and transitions

  • Supporting learning in the classroom and around school

  • Celebrating small wins, even when progress feels slow

  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and therapists

This role could suit you if:

  • You’ve supported children or young people with SEN, autism, SEMH, or additional needs

  • You’re patient, resilient, and confident staying calm under pressure

  • You understand that behaviour always has a reason

  • You enjoy building strong, meaningful relationships

  • You want to feel valued for the support you provide

What you’ll get with Protocol Education:

  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies

  • Free access to our online CPD Academy

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated SEN consultant

  • Opportunities to develop your skills in specialist settings

  • A smooth, supportive registration process
