We are working with a well-organised secondary school in Newham seeking a DT Technician (Food Technology & Textiles) to support both staff and students across practical subjects. You’ll play a key role in ensuring lessons run safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
What you’ll be doing:
Food Technology Support

Preparing ingredients and setting up cooking stations
-
Managing food stock, checking expiry dates, and ensuring safe storage
-
Maintaining high standards of hygiene across kitchens and equipment
-
Supporting food safety practices in line with regulations
Textiles Support
-
Setting up and maintaining sewing machines and textile equipment
-
Preparing fabrics, threads, and materials for lessons
-
Assisting with practical activities such as sewing and dyeing
-
Organising and maintaining textile resources
General Responsibilities
-
Supporting teachers and students during practical lessons
-
Ensuring compliance with health & safety, risk assessments, and COSHH
-
Managing resources, stock control, and storage areas
-
Assisting with displays, admin tasks, and day-to-day department needs
-
Creating a safe, positive, and well-organised learning environment
What the school is looking for:

A practical, hands-on individual with strong organisational skills

Good understanding of health, safety, and hygiene procedures

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Confident communication skills when working with young people

Previous school or workshop experience is desirable but not essential
