Primary SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH Focus (Sunderland)
Location: Sunderland
Pay: £90–£110 per day
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: As soon as possible
We are seeking a Primary SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in a nurturing primary school setting.
This role supports children who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour or engagement with learning and benefit from consistent, patient adult support.
You will work closely with class teachers and SEN staff to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment where pupils can develop confidence and positive relationships.
Key responsibilities:
• Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs in the classroom
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Helping pupils manage emotions and behaviour positively
• Supporting learning activities and routines
• Encouraging confidence, independence and resilience
• Supporting transitions and unstructured times
This role is ideal for someone who:
• Has experience supporting children with SEND or SEMH
• Is patient, calm and nurturing
• Understands behaviour as communication
• Enjoys working in a primary setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
