Imagine a classroom where creativity does more than fill sketchbooks. It builds confidence, communication, and those little breakthrough moments that make the whole day worth it.

We’re looking for a creative and compassionate Art Teacher to join a supportive SEN schools where every pupil learns differently, and that’s celebrated, not squeezed into a one-size-fits-all box. From sensory art projects to confidence-building creative sessions, this role is all about helping young people express themselves in ways that feel safe, meaningful, and empowering.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering engaging Art lessons tailored to pupils with SEN, including ASD, SEMH, ADHD, and complex learning needs
  • Adapting lessons so every learner can access creativity at their own pace
  • Building positive relationships and creating a calm, encouraging classroom environment
  • Working closely with support staff, therapists, and SENCOs to support pupil progress
  •  Helping students grow in confidence, independence, and self-expression through art

What schools are looking for:

  • QTS or relevant teaching experience in Art
  • A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach
  • Strong behaviour management rooted in empathy and consistency
  • Someone who can think creatively, both in the classroom and on the spot
  • SEN experience is brilliant, but mainstream teachers with the right attitude are warmly welcomed too

Why SEN schools love Art Teachers:

Because art can be the thing that unlocks communication for a pupil who struggles with words. It can calm anxious minds, build routines, and give students a real sense of achievement. In many SEN settings, creative subjects are at the heart of the curriculum, not squeezed in on Friday afternoons.

A few things teachers often say about moving into SEN:

• Smaller class sizes, bigger relationships
• More teamwork and support staff in the room
• Less focus on endless marking, more focus on individual progress
• Every day is different, but the wins feel huge
