We’re working with a nurturing primary school in South Bristol looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism. This role is about connection first, learning second, because when a child feels safe, everything else starts to fall into place.

This school has created a calm, structured environment where staff take the time to really get to know each child. No rushing, no forcing, just consistent support that helps pupils feel understood.

What your day will involve:
You’ll be supporting one pupil throughout the day, helping them navigate routines, transitions, and classroom activities. Some moments will be quiet and focused, others may need gentle reassurance or sensory breaks.

You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to create a rhythm that works, building trust and helping the pupil feel confident in their space.

Progress might look different here, and that’s the point. You’ll be there to notice it, celebrate it, and build on it.

The ideal candidate:
You’re calm, patient, and naturally reassuring. You don’t rush in, you take your time to understand.

Experience with autism or SEND is helpful, but just as important is your ability to build trust and stay consistent, even on the trickier days.
