Autism Learning Support Assistant
Do you have the patience, empathy and understanding to help a child with autism thrive?
We're looking for a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in a welcoming primary school in Mangotsfield.
This is a rewarding role for someone who understands that every child experiences the world differently. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one support, helping a pupil feel safe, understood and confident throughout the school day, while also supporting wider Key Stage 2 learning and small-group activities.
You don't need formal qualifications to apply. What matters most is your ability to build trusting relationships, remain calm under pressure, and support children with kindness, consistency and encouragement. Experience with autism, SEND, youth work, care work, coaching, mentoring or family support would be highly valued.
We're looking for someone who:
- Understands or has experience supporting children with autism and neurodiversity.
- Is patient, nurturing and able to provide a calm, predictable presence.
- Can help children develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation.
- Builds positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Works well as part of a supportive team.
- Believes every child deserves to feel included and valued.
The role includes:
- Providing tailored one-to-one support in line with an EHCP.
- Adapting activities to meet individual learning and sensory needs.
- Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional wellbeing.
- Delivering small-group interventions and classroom support.
- Working alongside teachers, the SENCo and external professionals.
If you're passionate about helping children with autism flourish and want to make a genuine difference in your local community, we'd love to hear from you.
