With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued investment across the South West, they are looking to strengthen their Mechanical Engineering capability with the appointment of a Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer.
About the Role
As a Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across mechanical handling and lifting equipment projects within a highly regulated infrastructure environment.
Working closely with engineering managers, multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders, you will support the delivery, maintenance and modification of cranes, lifting systems and associated mechanical infrastructure across operational facilities.
The role combines technical delivery, engineering assurance and stakeholder management, supporting projects through the full lifecycle from concept and design through to commissioning and ongoing asset support.
This position would suit someone with strong experience across safety-critical lifting systems within defence, nuclear, maritime or heavy industrial environments.
Due to the nature of the projects, candidates MUST be Sole UK Nationals and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
The key responsibilities for this Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Lead technical delivery across mechanical handling and lifting equipment projects
- Support the design, modification and upgrade of cranes and associated mechanical systems
- Carry out reviews of maintenance regimes and asset performance
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation
- Support the production of substantiation and configuration documentation
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and testing activities
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across infrastructure projects
- Support risk assessments, project reporting and engineering assurance activities
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
Experience required for this Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Significant experience within highly regulated industries such as defence, nuclear, maritime or heavy industrial sectors
- Strong experience with cranes, lifting equipment and mechanical handling systems
- Knowledge of safety-critical lifting operations and associated engineering standards
- Ability to review and produce engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation
- Experience supporting design substantiation and engineering assurance activities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- MUST be a Sole UK National and eligible for Security Clearance
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Experience within dockyard, marine or MoD environments
- Understanding of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems associated with cranes and hauling equipment
- Experience producing engineering calculations or FEA analysis
- Knowledge of asset lifecycle support within operational infrastructure environments
