Protocol Education is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision in South Shields. The school supports pupils aged 11–16 who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support to access education successfully.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in youth work, care, coaching, mentoring, residential support, or education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and self-management strategies
• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
• Assisting teachers in creating an engaging learning environment
• Supporting behaviour intervention plans
• Recording pupil progress and behaviour observations
• Encouraging positive attendance and engagement

Working Hours:

• Monday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
• Tuesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
• Wednesday: 8:30am – 3:45pm
• Thursday: 8:30am – 4:15pm
• Friday: 8:30am – 3:15pm

Requirements:

• Previous experience supporting young people preferred
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Resilient and calm under pressure
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply and pay for one
• Full-time applicants only

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
