Specialist Education Support Assistant
We're working with a thriving and growing primary school in South Gloucestershire that is looking for a Specialist Education Support Assistant to join its dedicated SEND team.
This is an opportunity to support children who need a little extra help to flourish, whether that's building confidence with literacy and numeracy, developing independence, or overcoming barriers to learning. You'll work closely with the SENDCo, teachers, families and external professionals to ensure every child has the support they need to succeed.
The role
As a Specialist Education Support Assistant, you'll play an important part in delivering targeted support for pupils with additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering small group interventions and 1:1 support sessions
- Supporting pupils with literacy and numeracy development
- Monitoring progress and helping children work towards individual learning targets
- Working alongside teachers to plan and deliver effective interventions
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to pupil reviews
- Supporting positive behaviour strategies and emotional wellbeing
- Helping to create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment
What we're looking for
You'll be someone who believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they face.
We're keen to hear from candidates who have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND
- A good standard of education, including English and Maths
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Confidence working with parents, outside agencies and school staff
- An understanding of effective interventions and how progress can be measured
- Patience, resilience and a positive approach to supporting learning
Additional training in literacy, numeracy, speech and language, or evidence-based intervention programmes would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
What you'll find here
This is a school where children are genuinely at the centre of everything. Staff work collaboratively, support one another and share a commitment to helping pupils achieve their full potential.
You'll be joining a forward-thinking team that values kindness, high expectations and continuous development.
In return, you'll benefit from:
- A supportive and welcoming school community
- Well-behaved, engaged pupils who enjoy learning
- Ongoing professional development and high-quality CPD opportunities
- Collaboration with experienced SEND and education professionals
- Access to specialist expertise across a wider family of schools
- Family-friendly policies and benefits
- Recognition of continuous service where applicable
