The Opportunity - Senior Commercial Manager
I'm supporting a senior appointment on behalf of a specialist consultancy delivering commercial, project and construction management services across the mission critical sector in Europe.
This is an opportunity to join an experienced client side team supporting the delivery of hyperscale data centre developments across the UK. You'll take ownership of the commercial function on high value projects, providing strategic commercial leadership while working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and programme leadership teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring robust commercial governance, cost certainty, contract administration and commercial risk management throughout the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities - Senior Commercial Manager
As Senior Commercial Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of complex data centre programmes, including:
- Leading the commercial management of major hyperscale data centre projects on behalf of the client.
- Developing and implementing commercial strategies that support programme objectives and maximise value.
- Managing cost planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting across multiple work packages.
- Overseeing contract administration and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and governance procedures.
- Reviewing and negotiating change orders, variations, claims and commercial proposals.
- Managing commercial risk and identifying opportunities to improve project performance.
- Supporting procurement activities, tender evaluations and commercial negotiations.
- Establishing and maintaining commercial controls, reporting systems and governance frameworks.
- Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and supply chain partners.
- Providing commercial advice and strategic reporting to senior leadership teams.
- Driving commercial best practice across all stages of project delivery.
General Remit of the Role - Senior Commercial Manager
- Leading client-side commercial management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Managing project budgets, forecasts and commercial reporting.
- Administering major construction contracts and managing commercial compliance.
- Reviewing contractor applications, variations and final accounts.
- Advising project teams on commercial strategy and contractual matters.
- Identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Supporting procurement and contract award processes.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams to achieve programme objectives.
- Ensuring projects are delivered within budget while maintaining commercial governance.
- Acting as the trusted commercial advisor to senior stakeholders.
Experience You'll Bring – Senior Commercial Manager
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience as a Commercial Manager, ideally in a client facing setting.
- Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centre or other mission-critical construction projects.
- Client-side or consultancy experience (contractor experience will also be considered).
- Strong understanding of procurement, contract management and change control.
- Excellent commercial judgement, negotiation and communication skills.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
Desirable Experience
Experience within one or more of the following sectors would be advantageous:

Pharmaceutical
Advanced Manufacturing
Industrial Construction
Energy Infrastructure
Professional membership (MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent) would also be advantageous.
