Looking for a meaningful role where you can positively impact the lives of young people?

Protocol Education is working with a number of inclusive and supportive schools across Bedminster that are seeking caring, resilient and motivated individuals to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional Special Educational Needs (SEN).

These opportunities are perfect for people who are patient, empathetic and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning. Whether you're experienced in education or looking to transfer your skills from another sector, we want to hear from you.

Why This Role Matters

Some pupils need more than academic support. They need trusted adults who can provide consistency, encouragement and understanding throughout the school day.

As a SEMH & SEN Support Assistant, you'll help create a safe and positive environment where young people can build confidence, regulate their emotions and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role may involve supporting pupils in mainstream classrooms, intervention groups or specialist provisions.

Responsibilities can include:

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

Supporting engagement in learning activities and lessons

Helping children develop emotional regulation strategies

Providing one-to-one and small-group support

Encouraging communication, confidence and independence

Using consistent approaches to support behaviour and wellbeing

️ Following safeguarding procedures and promoting pupil welfare

‍ Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams

Every day brings new challenges and rewards, making this a highly fulfilling role for someone who enjoys working closely with young people.

Who We're Looking For

You don't need previous school experience to be successful.

We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:

  • Youth Work
  • Care and Support Work
  • Sports Coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Residential Care
  • Hospitality

  • Armed Forces

What schools value most is your ability to remain calm, build rapport and support pupils through challenges.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

✔ Patient, resilient and emotionally aware

✔ Confident communicating with children and adults

✔ Able to build strong, positive relationships

✔ Comfortable working as part of a team

✔ Understanding that behaviour is often a form of communication

✔ Willing to learn and develop new skills

✔ Passionate about supporting children with SEMH and SEN needs

Experience is beneficial, but attitude and commitment are what matter most.
