At Protocol Education, we're working with supportive primary schools across BS31 who are looking for passionate and experienced Phonics Intervention Specialists to help children build the reading skills that unlock the rest of their education.

These roles are perfect for Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Intervention Tutors and Early Years practitioners who have experience delivering targeted phonics support and want to make a meaningful difference to children's progress.

Whether you've worked with Read Write Inc, Little Wandle, Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics or other structured literacy programmes, your expertise can have a huge impact on pupils who need additional support to develop confidence with reading and communication.

You'll work closely with class teachers and literacy leads to deliver focused one-to-one and small-group interventions, helping children strengthen their decoding, blending, fluency and comprehension skills. Many pupils may require additional support due to SEND, speech and language needs, delayed literacy development or gaps in learning, making this a highly rewarding role where progress is visible and celebrated.

Your Responsibilities

• Delivering phonics interventions on a one-to-one and small-group basis
• Supporting pupils who require additional literacy support
• Reinforcing classroom phonics teaching and learning
• Monitoring progress and celebrating pupil achievement
• Working alongside teachers and SEND teams to implement targeted support
• Encouraging reading confidence and positive learning behaviours
• Supporting pupils with additional needs where required

A Bit About You

• Experience delivering phonics interventions within EYFS or Key Stage 1
• Familiarity with programmes such as Read Write Inc, Little Wandle, Letters and Sounds or similar schemes
• A strong understanding of early reading development
• Patient, encouraging and nurturing in your approach
• Confident working one-to-one and with small groups
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND is advantageous
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Passionate about helping children achieve their potential

What We Need to Clear You

• Passport/proof of right to work in the UK
• Two proofs of address (such as a driving licence, utility bill or council tax statement)
• A CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained
• References covering the past two years, including childcare or education settings where applicable
• An overseas police check if you have lived abroad for three months or more within the last five years
