Seasonal Operations Personnel (271jc) – Silverstone, Northamptonshire / Nationwide – £200 per day + Enhanced Overnight Rates

Contract: Seasonal – November to March

My client, a specialist provider of weather protection systems for professional sports venues, is seeking practical, reliable and adaptable individuals to join their winter operations team.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE
ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

Supporting football, rugby, racing and major sporting events, you will help protect playing surfaces against adverse weather so that fixtures can go ahead.

They feel this opportunity would particularly suit military veterans and service leavers who enjoy hands-on work, being part of a close operational team and working in changing conditions. Backgrounds in logistics, transport, engineering, plant operation or field-based military roles would be useful, although your reliability, teamwork and practical approach are equally important. Full training on the specialist protection systems will be provided.

The Role

You will support the deployment, operation and recovery of specialist pitch protection equipment at sporting venues throughout the UK.

One assignment may involve preparing and loading equipment at the Silverstone base; the next could see you working overnight at a professional stadium, monitoring protection systems before removing them ahead of a fixture.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Loading, unloading, transporting and setting up operational equipment.
• Deploying, operating and recovering specialist pitch protection systems.
• Supporting the operation of fans, heaters, plant and associated equipment.
• Carrying out equipment checks, basic maintenance and preparation.
• Assisting with warehouse, yard, vehicle and equipment management between deployments.
• Following operational instructions, risk assessments and safe working procedures.
• Working professionally with colleagues, venue staff and other contractors.
• Adapting to changing weather conditions and operational requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be dependable, safety-conscious and comfortable undertaking physically demanding outdoor work throughout the winter.

You should also be:

• Willing to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.
• Available for weekend, evening, overnight and Bank Holiday work.
• Able to respond to deployments at relatively short notice.
• Comfortable working long or unsociable hours during busy periods.
• A team player who follows procedures and uses initiative when needed.
• Calm under pressure, with a positive and practical approach.

Useful Licences and Experience

A full UK driving licence is highly desirable. The following would be advantageous, although you do not need to hold all these qualifications to be considered:

• HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) licence.
• Commercial vehicle driving or trailer towing experience and relevant entitlement.
• Forklift, telehandler, tractor or other plant operating experience.
• CPCS, NPORS or equivalent plant qualifications.
• Mechanical or engineering experience.
• Experience with generators, pumps, fans, heaters or similar equipment.

Working Pattern and Package

This is a flexible seasonal role, with deployments driven by weather conditions and sporting fixtures. Reliability and availability are essential. Quieter periods will involve equipment preparation, maintenance, testing and general operational support at Silverstone. You will be working on average 8 – 10 days per month.

In return, my client offers:

• £200 day rate.
• Enhanced overnight working rates, agreed separately.
• Paid accommodation when deployments require overnight stays + £30 meal allowance for each overnight stay.
• Authorised business mileage reimbursed at 45p per mile where use of your own vehicle is required.
• Full training on specialist protection systems.
• Potential opportunities to support international projects and major sporting events.
