Our client is a leading national infrastructure engineering business delivering complex projects across highly regulated and safety-critical environments throughout the UK.
Operating across major infrastructure, defence and industrial sectors, the business supports large-scale asset upgrades, engineering improvements and long-term infrastructure programmes. With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued investment across the South West, they are looking to strengthen their Mechanical Engineering capability with the appointment of a Mechanical Handling Engineer.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Handling Engineer, you will support the delivery, maintenance and modification of mechanical handling systems across major infrastructure and operational facilities within a highly regulated environment.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders, you will provide technical support across cranes, lifting systems and associated mechanical infrastructure, supporting projects from concept through to commissioning and maintenance activities.
This role would suit someone with experience in safety-critical industries such as defence, nuclear, maritime, heavy industrial or infrastructure environments.
Due to the nature of the projects, candidates MUST be Sole UK Nationals and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
The key responsibilities for this Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Support mechanical handling and lifting equipment projects across operational facilities
- Assist with the design, modification and upgrade of mechanical systems and assets
- Carry out reviews of maintenance regimes and equipment performance
- Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation and configuration records
- Produce and review engineering drawings, calculations and substantiation documentation
- Support installation, commissioning and testing activities where required
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across project delivery
- Provide technical input into risk assessments, reporting and project planning activities
Experience required for this Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience within highly regulated industries such as defence, nuclear, maritime or heavy industrial sectors
- Experience supporting mechanical handling systems, cranes or lifting equipment
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Experience supporting design, modification or maintenance activities
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- MUST be a Sole UK National and eligible for Security Clearance
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Mechanical Handling Engineer role are:
- Experience within dockyard, marine or MoD environments
- Knowledge of cranes, lifting operations and safety-critical systems
- Understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems associated with lifting equipment
- Experience producing engineering calculations or FEA analysis
- Knowledge of mechanical building services systems such as HVAC, compressed air or water systems
