Some children are learning more than just phonics and numbers.

They're learning a new language, navigating a new school environment, and building the confidence to make friends, join in, and thrive in the classroom.

Protocol Education is working with a welcoming primary school in BS3 that is seeking a dedicated KS1 EAL Teaching Assistant to join their team from October 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young learners with English as an Additional Language, helping them develop communication skills, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

If you're patient, encouraging, and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support KS1 pupils who are developing their English language skills
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Help children build vocabulary, phonics, communication, and early literacy skills
  • Use visual resources, modelling, and structured language support strategies
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt learning activities and resources
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and active participation in lessons
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported

This role is about more than language development. It's about helping children feel settled, understood, and ready to succeed.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with primary-aged children
  • Understands the challenges and opportunities faced by EAL learners, particularly in KS1
  • Communicates clearly, positively, and professionally
  • Can adapt language and learning without lowering expectations
  • Is patient, resilient, and committed to inclusive education
  • Enjoys building strong relationships with children, staff, and families

Additional languages are welcomed but are not essential.

What the School Offers

  • A welcoming and supportive staff team
  • An inclusive ethos where diversity is celebrated
  • Opportunities to work closely with experienced teachers and SEN professionals
  • Engaged pupils who are eager to learn
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

Why Work with Protocol Education?

  • A dedicated consultant with in-depth knowledge of Bristol schools
  • Free CPD opportunities, including Thrive training
  • Ongoing career support and development
  • Access to a wide range of local school opportunities
  • A recruitment team committed to finding the right role for you

What We Need to Clear You

  • A valid passport or proof of your right to work in the UK
  • Two proofs of address (such as a driving licence, utility bill, or council tax statement)
  • A CV covering the last 10 years of work and/or education history, with any gaps explained
  • References covering the last two years, including childcare or education settings where applicable
  • An overseas police check if you have lived abroad for 3 months or more during the last 5 years

If you're ready to help young learners find their voice and flourish in the classroom this October, we'd love to hear from you.
