We're working with a welcoming primary school in BS3 that is looking to appoint a compassionate and dedicated KS1 EAL Teaching Assistant. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) as they settle into school life, develop communication skills, and build confidence in the classroom.

What You'll Be Doing

As a KS1 EAL Teaching Assistant, you'll play a key role in helping pupils access learning and become confident members of the school community.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting KS1 pupils who are learning English as an Additional Language
• Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions
• Developing children's vocabulary, communication, phonics, and early literacy skills
• Using visual aids, modelling, repetition, and practical activities to support understanding
• Working closely with class teachers to adapt resources and learning activities
• Encouraging participation, confidence, and independence in the classroom
• Creating a warm, inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and able to contribute

This role is about far more than language acquisition. It's about helping children find their confidence, build friendships, and develop a genuine sense of belonging.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who:

• Have experience working with primary-aged children
• Understand the barriers EAL learners can face, particularly within Key Stage 1
• Are patient, encouraging, and able to build positive relationships quickly
• Communicate clearly and confidently with children, parents, and staff
• Can break down learning into manageable steps while maintaining high expectations
• Are passionate about inclusion, equality, and helping every child achieve their potential

Additional languages are welcomed but are not essential for this role.

What We Need to Clear You

To get you registered and ready for work, we'll need:

• Passport or proof of right to work in the UK
• Two proofs of address
• A CV covering the last 10 years of employment and/or education, with any gaps explained
• References covering the last two years, including childcare, education, or support work where applicable
• An overseas police check if you have lived abroad for three months or more within the last five years
