SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive educational setting in Doncaster. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, ensuring they can thrive both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.
• Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
• Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and independence.
• Support pupils with communication, social, and life skills development.
• Build positive and effective relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, communicating observations to teaching staff.
• Assist with personal care and mobility needs where required.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
• A genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a variety of situations.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
• Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language needs.
• Team Teach or other behaviour management training.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience working within a school, specialist provision, alternative provision, or care setting.
