Do you have a passion for supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs? Are you patient, resilient and able to build strong relationships that help young people believe in themselves?

We are looking for a caring and committed SEMH & Autism Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 6 pupil in a welcoming primary school. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child's final year of primary education and help prepare her for a successful transition to secondary school.

The pupil has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and is a bright, engaging young person who benefits from consistent emotional support. Her primary barriers to learning are high anxiety and low self-esteem, so the successful candidate will play a key role in building her confidence, celebrating achievements and helping her feel safe, supported and capable within the school environment.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Support emotional regulation and anxiety management.
  • Encourage participation, resilience and independence.
  • Act as a positive role model and advocate.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and SEND professionals.
  • Help the pupil develop the confidence needed for her move to secondary school.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children with ASD, SEMH needs or additional learning needs.
  • Is calm, patient and emotionally intelligent.
  • Understands the importance of relationship-based support.
  • Can promote confidence and self-belief through encouragement and consistency.
  • Is proactive, adaptable and committed to helping every child succeed.

Ideal Backgrounds

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:

  • Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles
  • SEMH or SEND support
  • Youth work
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Children's residential care
  • Psychology or education graduates
  • Family support or pastoral work

What You'll Receive

  • A rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on a child's life.
  • Supportive school leadership and SEND team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Competitive weekly pay.

Requirements

  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Ability to provide references covering the last 24 months.
  • Right to work in the UK.

If you're passionate about helping children overcome barriers, build confidence and reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
