I’m currently working with a leading global consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join their Development Infrastructure team in Dublin or Cork.
This is a great opportunity for a civil engineer who wants to take ownership of technically challenging projects, work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and play a key role in developing the engineers around them.
The Opportunity - Principal Civil Engineer
You’ll join an established Development Infrastructure team delivering civil engineering solutions across Ireland and the UK, working with developers, local authorities and major private-sector clients.
The team is involved throughout the development lifecycle, from early feasibility and planning through detailed design and construction, giving you the opportunity to see your designs progress from concept through to delivery.
Your project portfolio would include:
- Development infrastructure
- Highways and transportation
- Drainage and utilities
- Flood risk and surface water management
- SuDS
- Residential developments
- Mixed-use schemes
- Major development and infrastructure projects
The wider Irish business works across transport, water, energy, buildings, environment, real estate and digital infrastructure, creating opportunities to collaborate with specialists across multiple disciplines.
What will you be doing? - Principal Civil Engineer
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you’ll take a lead role in the technical delivery of civil engineering projects, with responsibility across design, coordination, client engagement and project delivery.
You’ll be involved in:
- Leading the design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects from feasibility through to construction
- Acting as a technical lead and providing guidance to engineers within the team
- Developing practical, commercially viable and buildable engineering solutions
- Working directly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Taking ownership of technical quality, programme and design coordination
- Reviewing designs and providing technical assurance
- Contributing to bids, tenders and business development opportunities
- Building strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders
The Technical Side
This role will suit someone who enjoys being hands-on with engineering and problem-solving.
You’ll ideally have strong experience across areas such as:
Drainage, Highways, SuDS, Flood Risk, Water Infrastructure, and Development Infrastructure
Experience with industry-standard design tools such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage would be highly valuable.
Key Requirements - Principal Civil Engineer
- Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering
- Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status
- Experienced within development infrastructure / civil engineering consultancy
- Experienced delivering projects within the Irish or UK market
- Technically strong across drainage, highways, water infrastructure and/or SuDS
- Comfortable taking technical ownership of projects
- Confident communicating with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams
- Experienced in mentoring other engineers
- Someone who enjoys finding practical solutions to complex engineering challenges
