Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Pay: £120 - 140 per day, dependent on experience

Make a real difference to how children access education

Protocol Education are working with a specialist provision in Gateshead to recruit an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with physical and/or medical needs.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop independence and access education through personalised support and assistive technology.

You will work alongside specialist teachers and other professionals, supporting pupils across different educational settings.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting pupils with physical and/or medical needs.
  • Adapting learning activities around individual needs.
  • Promoting independence, communication and participation.
  • Supporting pupils to use assistive technology and specialist equipment.
  • Setting up, checking and maintaining specialist equipment.
  • Supporting alternative methods of recording and curriculum access.
  • Following individual healthcare, physical and moving and handling plans.
  • Working closely with specialist teachers, SENCOs, therapists and school staff.
  • Providing observations and feedback on pupil progress.
  • Supporting staff and families with the safe use of specialist equipment.

We're Looking For

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children with physical and/or medical needs.
  • SEND or specialist education experience.
  • Confidence using ICT and ideally assistive technology.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and safe moving and handling.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach.
  • The ability to work independently across different settings.
  • A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle – essential for this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
