The Opportunity – Contracts and Commercial Risk Manager

I'm supporting a senior appointment for a Contracts & Commercial Risk Manager on behalf of an established international EPC company delivering mission critical construction projects across Europe.

This is a strategic position supporting senior commercial leadership across multiple live and upcoming Data Centre projects. You'll act as the commercial focal point for contractual risk, partnering with project teams throughout the full project lifecycle. By providing expert guidance on contract strategy, commercial governance and risk profiling, you'll help ensure projects are set up for success from the outset. The opportunity is based in London with travel across Europe to support project teams and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities - Contracts and Commercial Risk Manager

You'll play a key role across both tendering and project delivery, including:

• Working closely with the Commercial Director, project teams and legal advisers to identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks across multiple Data Centre projects
• Lead the commercial review of client contracts, ensuring contractual obligations and commercial exposures are fully understood before execution
• Work closely with internal and external legal teams on contract negotiations, amendments and bespoke contractual provisions
• Develop commercial risk profiles for major projects during tender and pre-construction phases
• Support the preparation of tender submissions from a contractual and commercial perspective
• Review and develop subcontract packages, ensuring appropriate contractual flow-down and risk allocation
• Provide expert guidance on NEC and JCT contracts throughout the project lifecycle
• Support project teams with contractual interpretation, notices, compensation events, variations and entitlement
• Contribute to claims strategy and dispute avoidance, working alongside legal advisers where required
• Develop commercial governance processes and best practice across the business
• Travel to projects across Europe to support commercial teams and senior leadership on contractual matters

General Remit of the Role - Contracts and Commercial Risk Manager

• Reviewing major contracts before execution
• Advising project teams on NEC or JCT contractual issues
• Supporting negotiations with clients and subcontractors
• Travelling to project sites across Europe to work alongside delivery teams
• Reviewing commercial risks associated with live projects
• Supporting commercial teams on complex change events
• Developing best practice across multiple projects
• Working directly with the Commercial Director on strategic commercial matters

Experience You'll Bring - Contracts and Commercial Risk Manager

We're looking for someone with the confidence and experience to influence projects from the outset

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• Extensive experience within construction or engineering
• Strong experience working for a main contractor or EPC contractor
• Excellent knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
• Experience preparing or reviewing subcontract packages
• Strong understanding of tendering, procurement and commercial strategy
• Experience identifying and managing commercial risk before projects commence
• A practical understanding of project delivery and construction operations
• Excellent commercial judgement and negotiation skills
• The confidence to challenge where necessary while building strong relationships across project teams

Desirable Experience

Experience within one of the following sectors would be advantageous:

• Data Centres
• Mission Critical
• Life Sciences
• Pharmaceutical
• Industrial Construction

A legal qualification or previous legal experience would be highly desirable, although not essential.
