Early Career Systems Engineer

About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing engineering consultancy delivering high-quality professional services across the UK and international markets, with particular expertise in transport, infrastructure and natural resources. As a specialist consultancy, they offer a collaborative and supportive environment where engineers work closely with clients, gain exposure to complex project challenges, and see the direct impact of their work. They value individuals who are thoughtful, pragmatic, and comfortable operating within a client-facing consultancy environment.

The Role
We are seeking an Early Career Systems Engineer with a particular focus on Requirements Management and Verification & Validation (V&V) to support the delivery of complex infrastructure and engineering programmes.
The successful candidate will apply systems engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle, helping to define, manage and maintain requirements while supporting the planning and execution of verification and validation activities to demonstrate compliance.

Working alongside experienced systems engineering professionals, you will contribute to high-quality engineering outputs while continuing to develop your technical expertise and consultancy skills.
This position is ideally suited to someone with 2-5 years' experience who is ready to take the next step in their systems engineering career. You will already be comfortable taking ownership of your work, engaging directly with clients, and applying systems engineering principles in a practical delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities
-    Apply systems engineering principles across the full project lifecycle, from concept and definition through to acceptance and delivery.
-    Capture, develop and manage clear, structured and traceable requirements at both system and subsystem level.
-    Support the planning, coordination and execution of Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to demonstrate compliance against requirements.
-    Review design outputs, assurance documentation and verification evidence, identifying gaps and supporting resolution activities.
-    Embed within client delivery teams, aligning with established processes, governance and ways of working.
-    Participate in technical workshops, reviews and stakeholder meetings, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
-    Support change management activities, assessing impacts on requirements, design and verification activities.
-    Effectively manage your workload and priorities within a hybrid working environment.
-    Contribute positively to a collaborative and high-performing engineering team.

About You
You are a systems-thinking engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a structured and practical manner. You take ownership of your work, build strong working relationships, and are keen to broaden your experience across a variety of engineering and infrastructure programmes.

Essential Requirements
-    Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or a relevant STEM discipline.
-    Minimum 2 years' experience applying systems engineering principles within project delivery environments.
-    Experience in requirements elicitation, definition, management and traceability.
-    Practical experience supporting engineering assurance, compliance, verification or validation activities.
-    Understanding of end-to-end requirements traceability, linking requirements through design, implementation and verification.
-    Ability to apply systems thinking to complex problems, considering interfaces, dependencies and wider project impacts.
-    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound engineering judgements.
-    Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
-    Comfortable operating within a client-facing consultancy environment.
-    Ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively within a team.

Desirable Skills & Experience
-    Experience working on major infrastructure, transportation or engineering programmes.
-    Previous consultancy experience.
-    Familiarity with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or equivalent.
-    Knowledge of systems engineering standards, processes and best practice.

What's on Offer
This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside recognised industry experts on some of the UK's most complex transport and infrastructure programmes.
Unlike larger organisations, you will have the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility early in your career, work directly with clients, and gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, accelerating both your professional and technical development.

You will benefit from:
-    Structured mentoring and support from experienced Systems Engineering professionals.
-    Exposure to nationally and internationally significant engineering programmes.
-    Broad project experience across multiple sectors and clients.
-    Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities.
-    A collaborative and supportive team culture.
-    Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

Benefits
-    Competitive salary of up to £44,000 (Dependent on Experience)
-    Employer pension contribution 7%
-    25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
-    Private medical insurance
-    Life assurance
-    Salary sacrifice schemes
-    Employee discounts and cashback platform
-    Remote, hybrid and flexible working
-    Cycle to work scheme
-    Mileage covered
