Principal Electrical Engineer (AI Facilities)

Our client is a specialist engineering consultancy with an established reputation in mission-critical infrastructure, data centre design, and AI-ready facilities across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. With continued growth in high-density compute, hyperscale developments, and resilient digital infrastructure, they are looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their London team.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design and delivery across mission-critical developments from concept through commissioning, manage multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and act as a key technical interface with clients, contractors, and delivery partners.

The role:

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, responsibilities will include:

  • Leading end-to-end electrical design delivery for AI facilities, data centres, and critical environments

  • Designing and specifying LV/MV power systems, UPS, standby generation, lighting, fire alarm, earthing, and life safety systems

  • Managing scope, programme, cost, risk, and resource across multiple live projects

  • Acting as lead contact for clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders

  • Producing technical reports, tender packages, schematics, SLDs, and design calculations

  • Supporting testing, commissioning, snagging, and project closeout phases

  • Mentoring junior and intermediate engineers, driving standards and best practice

  • Contributing to innovation in resilient infrastructure and AI-ready power environments

Technical requirements:

  • Strong electrical building services design background within data centres, mission-critical, commercial, or high-load environments

  • Good working knowledge of BS, CIBSE, IEC, EN, and UK regulatory standards

  • Software experience with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, ETAP / Amtech / Dialux

  • Ability to produce coordinated design packages, drawings, studies, and technical documentation

  • Experience supporting commissioning and live project delivery in critical facilities

Ideal profile:

  • 8+ years’ experience in electrical building services engineering

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

  • Chartered or working towards chartership (IET / CIBSE / equivalent)

  • Proven delivery experience on large-scale MEP projects from concept to handover

  • Previous experience in data centres, critical infrastructure, or AI-focused facilities preferred

  • Strong stakeholder management and team leadership capability

  • BREEAM / LEED exposure beneficial
