Role overview

Every word we write matters. From what’s in the app, to job ads, to error messages, to emails, to internal policies. The Writing team levels up Monzo’s writing overall. You’ll keep quality high through the writing you do and champion great writing by proving the difference it makes and helping others improve their skills.

You’ll be covering our Borrowing Writer while they’re on caregiver leave. This is a 12-month fixed term contract focused on supporting teams working on loans, credit cards, overdrafts and other borrowing and credit related projects.

A typical day could see you

  • collaborating with a Product Designer on some in-app screens
  • collaborating with a Product Marketer on positioning and building messaging toolkits for use across web, growth marketing or CRM
  • sitting in on user research sessions led by the Research team
  • writing error messages with input from engineers
  • editing legal wording alongside our in-house lawyers

This is for you if

  • you understand borrowing and credit products well
  • you’re a dab hand at ‘content design’, ‘UX writing’, ‘product writing’
  • you’re allergic to useless jargon and over-complicated language
  • you know how to use data and research to guide your approach
  • you’re okay bouncing between tasks on a daily basis
  • you’re comfortable questioning a brief and helping people understand why your approach is the right one
  • you’ve done some training or coaching to help other people improve their writing (not essential)

This isn’t for you if

  • it’s your first writing job – we need someone to hit the ground running
  • you’re a journalist or ad writer
  • you’re only really excited by brand and marketing stuff
  • you prefer to spend most of your time working solo
  • you like lots of top-down direction

What you’ll get

  • the chance to shape the role around what’s good for you and us
  • very flexible working
  • a whole load of benefits including a personal training budget, health insurance, generous caregiving leave and more
