About the role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the cooked food kitchen, overseeing a team of five staff producing a range of products including pies, sausage rolls and Scotch eggs.

This is a hands-on supervisory position. You'll lead by example, supporting the team throughout the day while ensuring production targets, quality standards and customer requirements are achieved.

Starting at 5:00am, you will organise the daily production schedule, allocate labour resources, monitor progress throughout the shift and ensure products are produced safely, efficiently and on time.

In particular, you will:

  • Lead, motivate and support a team of production operatives
  • Set up production plans and ensure resources are in place to meet demand
  • Monitor productivity and support KPI achievement
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and health & safety compliance
  • Work alongside the team during busy periods to support production output
  • Drive continuous improvements in efficiency, quality and waste reduction
  • Ensure machinery, ingredients and resources are available when required
  • Support training and development across the team

Who we are looking for

  • Previous management experience within a food production or manufacturing environment
  • Strong production planning and workforce scheduling skills
  • Experience monitoring KPIs, productivity and operational performance
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop production teams
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to solve problems effectively
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene, health & safety and manufacturing best practices

Experience within a butchery, bakery, meat processing or food manufacturing environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

In return we are offering

  • Competitive salary of £32,000 - £36,000 depending on experience
  • 48-hour contracted working week
  • Monday to Friday working pattern, typically 5:00am - 3:00pm
  • Paid morning break
  • Ad-hoc weekend working as required, operating on a rota basis across Saturdays and Sundays
  • Time off in lieu for regular Saturday/Sunday working (currently approximately once per month)
  • Opportunity to lead and shape a growing production operation
  • Friendly, supportive and team-focused working environment
  • Staff discount
  • On-site parking
  • Company pension
