One pupil. One relationship. A huge impact.

Protocol Education are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil within a school in Peterlee.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys getting to know an individual pupil, understanding how they learn and providing the consistency and encouragement they need to succeed.

The successful candidate will become an important part of the pupil's school day, working closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team.

Your Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support.
  • Help the pupil access lessons and classroom activities.
  • Break down tasks into manageable steps.
  • Reinforce instructions and learning.
  • Encourage participation.
  • Support concentration and engagement.
  • Help develop independence.
  • Support emotional regulation.
  • Encourage positive behaviour.
  • Assist with transitions between lessons and activities.
  • Support social interaction.
  • Build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Provide reassurance when the pupil becomes overwhelmed.
  • Support the pupil during break and lunchtime.
  • Communicate effectively with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Record and share relevant observations.

The pupil may have Autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, communication needs or other additional needs, depending on the individual placement.

The Right Person

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Patient.
  • Calm.
  • Reliable.
  • Observant.
  • Compassionate.
  • Consistent.
  • Confident.
  • A strong communicator.
  • Able to build trust and rapport.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively.

Previous 1:1 experience is desirable but not essential.

Transferable experience from care, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, childcare or support work can be extremely valuable.
