Our Financial Crime team
Our Financial Crime Collective helps keep Monzo and our customers safe by building effective, proportionate controls that protect against financial crime while delivering great customer outcomes.
We’re looking for a Senior Financial Crime Analyst to join our Actions Squad. You’ll be a subject matter expert across key financial crime controls, taking ownership of complex problems and helping us continuously improve how our controls operate across both Monzo Bank Limited (MBL) and Monzo Bank Europe (MBEU).
Key responsibilities
- Owning our global risk controls for Exit & Defunds, Law Enforcement and Acceptable Use Standard, with end-to-end oversight of BAU performance across MBL and MBEU.
- Developing and improving control documentation and standards, balancing financial crime risk, operational efficiency and customer experience.
- Using data and trend analysis to monitor control effectiveness, identify emerging threats and spot opportunities to strengthen our controls.
- Making sure we have appropriate financial crime control coverage as Monzo launches new products and expands into new areas.
- Identifying and prioritising material risks, escalating these clearly to leadership alongside practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Owning the investigation and remediation of incidents within your control areas and partnering with other Control Owners to resolve high-impact issues.
- Acting as a domain expert for your areas, providing technical guidance, sharing knowledge and helping build capability across the wider Financial Crime Collective.
- Leading cross-functional initiatives across Product, Operations and Engineering, building shared understanding and influencing teams towards compliant and customer-focused solutions.
- Taking on Nominated Approver and Financial Crime Floater responsibilities.
What we’re looking for
- You have strong financial crime and regulatory compliance expertise and are comfortable acting as a subject matter expert within your domain.
- You’re confident using data to understand control performance, identify weaknesses and make evidence-based recommendations — experience with tools such as Looker would be useful.
- You’re comfortable independently assessing and prioritising complex financial crime risks, making proportionate decisions and escalating material issues when needed.
- You communicate clearly and can adapt your approach for different audiences, from operational and technical teams through to senior leaders.
- You’re great at working cross-functionally and can build strong relationships across teams such as Product, Operations and Engineering to influence outcomes without relying on formal authority.
- You’re comfortable managing a complex portfolio and competing priorities, while maintaining a high bar for quality and proactively identifying opportunities to improve how we work.
What’s in it for you
- £59,500 - £80,500
- 12 month fixed-term contract
- This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)
- We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.
- £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.
- We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.
- Plus lots more! Read our full list of benefits.
