Protocol Education is working alongside specialist schools and alternative provisions across Peterlee to recruit compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants for full-time positions starting this September.

These settings support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASC), ADHD and behavioural challenges. Every pupil has their own story, and you'll play a vital role in helping them build confidence, regulate their emotions and re-engage with education.

Role Details

  • Full-time, long-term opportunity
  • September start
  • Monday-Friday
  • Working hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Term-time only
  • Opportunity to secure a permanent contract

Your responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Building trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting learning both inside and outside the classroom
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and therapists
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence

We're looking for someone who

  • Has experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
  • Is calm, patient and resilient
  • Can confidently manage challenging situations
  • Has excellent communication skills
  • Is passionate about supporting pupils with SEMH

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
