Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs? Do you have an interest in autism, SEND or education and want to gain hands-on, paid experience in a specialist school setting?

We’re working with a welcoming and supportive school to find a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism and additional learning needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills, build meaningful relationships with pupils and gain valuable experience within a school environment.

Whether you’re an experienced SEND professional or considering a future career in teaching, psychology, education or youth work, this role could be an excellent next step.

With an experienced leadership and teaching team around you, you’ll receive ongoing support while becoming an important part of the pupil’s day-to-day learning and development.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide tailored support to help a pupil engage with learning, develop their confidence and build independence.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Can remain calm, patient and compassionate in challenging situations
  • Has an understanding of, or genuine interest in, SEND and autism
  • Takes an individualised approach to supporting learning and communication
  • Is creative, adaptable and confident thinking outside the box
  • Cares about pupils’ academic, emotional, social and personal development
  • Builds positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Has a supportive and encouraging approach that helps pupils feel safe, valued and motivated
  • Works effectively as part of a wider team, including teachers, support staff and parents/carers
  • Can use initiative and adapt support in response to an individual pupil’s communication, sensory and learning needs
  • Is reliable, proactive and committed to making a positive difference every day

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable, but we’re also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude.

The School

You’ll be joining a school that:

  • Has a carefully planned and engaging curriculum
  • Creates a supportive, inclusive environment for pupils and staff
  • Puts the individual needs and potential of every child at the heart of its work
  • Encourages staff to develop their skills, confidence and creativity
  • Values collaboration, communication and positive relationships
  • Is conveniently located with good public transport links
