We are working with a highly established Tier 1 main contractor expanding its commercial team on a hyperscale Data Centre project in the North East.
This is an opportunity to join a high profile project at an exciting stage, working alongside an experienced project and commercial team. The business has a strong foothold in the mission critical space, continuing to grow its presence within the UK Data Centre market.
There is scope for the right person to develop into broader commercial leadership as the project portfolio grows.
The Opportunity - Senior Contracts Surveyor
As Senior Contracts Surveyor, you'd be looking after the commercial management of your allocated packages, working closely with the project delivery, procurement and commercial teams to protect the project's financial and contractual position.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of the commercial management of designated subcontract and supplier packages
- Preparing monthly valuations, applications for payment and cost reconciliations
- Managing subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account
- Supporting accurate project forecasting, cash flow reporting and cost-value reconciliation
- Reviewing contract documentation and identifying commercial, contractual and financial risks
- Managing the commercial impact of variations, change orders and compensation events
- Preparing and agreeing interim and final accounts with relevant stakeholders
- Working closely with Procurement and Planning teams to ensure commercial requirements are aligned with project delivery
- Producing and reviewing detailed quantity take-offs to support procurement and project requirements
- Monitoring contractual notices, delays and relevant project events, ensuring records are maintained accurately
- Building and maintaining strong commercial relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
- Providing commercial advice to the wider project team and supporting informed project decision-making
- Managing, mentoring and developing Assistant and Junior Surveyors within the commercial team

The project is generally site-based five days per week, with some flexibility depending on project requirements.
Key Success Factors - Senior Contracts Surveyor
Ideally, you'll have:
- Significant experience within Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management
- Strong Data Centre experience, ideally with a main contractor background
- Experience working on large scale construction or mission critical projects
- Strong subcontract and package management experience
- A solid understanding of valuations, variations, procurement and final accounts
- Experience working directly with clients and subcontractors
- Strong commercial awareness and contractual understanding
- Experience managing or mentoring junior members of a commercial team
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Chartered status or working towards chartership with the SCS or equivalent would be advantageous
