An established civil engineering contractor delivering a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects across the UK.
With a strong pipeline of work, the business is investing in its commercial team and offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, influence commercial performance and support the development of junior colleagues. With Multi-million pound contracts secured this division has a huge future ahead with multiple hires planned over the next 2 years. Creating a role for an ambitious QS to develop into managing a team.
The Role
I'm hiring a Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership across civil engineering projects from tender handover through to final account.
You will work closely with operational teams, clients and subcontractors to manage costs, maximise value recovery and ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual requirements. You will be joining the division at a pivotal time in their growth journey and will have daily direct contact with the divisional lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial and contractual delivery of civils projects
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, forecasts and profitability
- Produce monthly cost value reconciliations, cash flow forecasts and management reports
- Assess, price, negotiate and agree variations and compensation events
- Prepare and submit applications for payment
- Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, variations and final accountsIdentify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Maintain accurate cost records and valuations
- Provide commercial guidance to project managers, engineers and site teams
- Support contract negotiations and the resolution of commercial disputes
- Mentor junior members of the commercial team
- Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Requirements
- At least five years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role
- Strong civil engineering or infrastructure experience
- Good working knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
- Proven experience pricing and negotiating variations
- Strong commercial, analytical and negotiation skills
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts and client applications
- Confident working independently and advising operational teams
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel to project sites when required
