Be the calm in the storm.

Not every pupil's journey through education is straightforward. Some have faced challenges that mean a mainstream classroom just isn't the right fit, right now.

That's where you come in.

We're looking for a confident, patient and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Bristol. This is a chance to make a genuine difference every single day, helping young people rebuild confidence, regulate emotions and re-engage with learning.

No two days are the same, but that's exactly what makes this role so rewarding.

What you'll be doing

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who need consistency and encouragement.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Using de-escalation techniques to help pupils manage their emotions.
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Celebrating every win, no matter how big or small.

We'd love to hear from you if you have

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, SEMH or additional needs.
  • A calm, patient and positive approach.
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a supportive and restorative way.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEND school, youth work, residential care, coaching or mentoring is highly desirable.

Why you'll love this school

This Bristol PRU is full of dedicated staff who believe every young person deserves another chance to succeed. You'll be joining a supportive team that celebrates progress, works together and genuinely cares about both pupils and staff.

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies.
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy.
  • Personalised support from your dedicated consultant.
  • Opportunities across mainstream, SEND and alternative provisions.
  • A simple registration process and local placements.
  • Refer a friend and earn rewards.

If you're someone who stays calm under pressure, believes every young person deserves someone in their corner and wants a role where you can see the difference you make, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and let's find the right school for you.
