Sports Coach – Learning Support Assistant (September Start)

Protocol Education works closely with welcoming primary schools across BS3 that are looking for confident, energetic sports coaches to bring their skills and experience into the classroom from September.

If you're looking for a new challenge alongside your coaching career, or you're considering a future in education, this is a fantastic opportunity to use your experience to support children while gaining valuable school-based experience. By completing your registration and clearance over the summer holidays, you'll be ready to start work at the beginning of the new academic year.

While your background may be in coaching and leading physical activity, this role focuses on supporting pupils within Key Stage 2 classrooms. Schools value sports coaches for their ability to motivate children, build positive relationships, encourage teamwork and promote resilience—qualities that make an excellent Learning Support Assistant.

The Role

You'll support learning alongside the class teacher, working with individuals and small groups to help pupils stay engaged, focused and confident throughout the school day. Your understanding of learning through movement, routine and positive reinforcement will help pupils regulate their behaviour, participate in lessons and enjoy learning.

Placements are carefully matched to your experience and personality, with schools that value reliable support staff and welcome you as part of their team. Whether you're looking for flexible work or hoping to build experience before teacher training, this role offers a rewarding way to make a real difference from September.

Pay & Benefits

  • Daily rates of £92–£94, paid weekly via PAYE

  • Register over the summer and be classroom-ready for September

  • Opportunities to use your coaching experience to support PE lessons, school clubs and active learning

  • Flexible work to fit around your coaching or other commitments

  • A chance to make a positive impact on children's learning and wellbeing

What You Can Expect

  • Friendly and supportive primary schools across Bristol

  • Flexible opportunities to suit your availability

  • Clear timetables and expectations, particularly within KS2

  • Experience across a range of school settings

  • £250 refer-a-teacher bonus

This Role Is Perfect If You

  • Hold a recognised sports coaching qualification or have relevant coaching experience

  • Have experience working with KS2-aged children

  • Can deliver engaging, high-energy support while maintaining positive behaviour

  • Know how to adapt activities to suit different abilities and needs

  • Are interested in gaining classroom experience from September

  • Want flexible work without stepping away from coaching

Why Work with Protocol Education?

  • Competitive daily rates, paid weekly via PAYE

  • Free access to our CPD Academy, including Thrive wellbeing training

  • A dedicated local Bristol consultant who knows their schools

  • Regular bookings, with opportunities for longer-term placements and future career progression

Get Ready Over the Summer

We'll support you through every step of the registration and compliance process during the summer holidays, so you're fully cleared and ready to start in September.

To complete your clearance, we'll need:

  • Passport

  • Two proofs of address (e.g. driving licence, utility bill, council tax bill or P45/P60)

  • A CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained

  • Two years of references (including childcare, where applicable)

  • An Overseas Police Check (OSPC) if you've lived overseas for three months or more during the last five years

Complete your clearance over the summer and start the new academic year with a rewarding role supporting pupils and schools across BS3.
