Self-Employed Hairdresser

YOLO Hair Design is looking for a self-employed hairdresser to join our friendly team of stylists. You will start with clients already waiting for appointments, then build your own loyal clientele over time.

This suits a motivated stylist who wants the freedom of self-employment, a busy salon behind them and a ready supply of clients from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Take on the clients currently waiting for appointments
• Deliver cuts, colour and styling to a high, consistent standard
• Carry out consultations, including patch tests where needed, and advise clients honestly on what will suit them
• Build your own client base by rebooking, referrals and promoting your work
• Keep your chair, tools and work area clean, tidy and hygienic at all times
• Work as part of the team, sharing the salon space, products and equipment fairly

What we expect from you

Being self-employed gives you freedom, we just ask every stylist at YOLO Hair Design to:

• Reliability: turn up on time for every booked appointment, and give as much notice as possible if you cannot make it, so clients are never left waiting
• Quality: work to a high standard, and be honest with clients about what is achievable, especially with colour and corrective work
• Professionalism: be polite, presentable and respectful to clients and colleagues, and keep client information private
• Communication: tell us promptly about any client concerns, complaints or issues so we can deal with them together
• Teamwork: be supportive of the other stylists and keep the salon a positive place to work
• Follow all self-employed obligations

Requirements

Essential

• Fully qualified hairdresser (e.g. NVQ/VRQ Level 2 or 3, or equivalent)
• Proven experience cutting and colouring in a salon
• Right to work in the UK
• Registered as self-employed, with public liability insurance
• Reliable, professional and comfortable working in a team

Desirable

• An existing client following
• Experience with a range of hair types and current techniques
• Strong rebooking and client-retention skills
