Protocol Education is working in partnership with a welcoming school in Darlington to recruit a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker to join their team on a temporary basis with an immediate start.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or site management who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented environment for staff and pupils.

The Role

As the School Caretaker, you will play a key role in ensuring the school site is well maintained, secure, and fully operational each day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Opening and securing the school site
• Carrying out key holding duties and maintaining site security
• Completing general maintenance and minor repair work
• Painting and decorating classrooms, corridors, and communal areas
• Undertaking routine health and safety inspections
• Setting up rooms and moving furniture as required
• Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the school grounds
• Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with the school where necessary

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Be available to start immediately
• Have previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities, site assistant, or handyman role
• Be reliable, organised, and able to work independently
• Be confident carrying out key holding and site security responsibilities
• Have practical DIY, painting, and decorating skills
• Take pride in delivering high standards of work
• Have a good understanding of health and safety procedures
• Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
