The Opportunity
An established international engineering and infrastructure contractor is expanding its Power & Renewables division across the UK, Ireland and wider Europe.
With a strong pipeline of major power and renewable energy projects, including significant framework work, the business is now looking to appoint a Commercial Lead to provide senior commercial leadership across a growing portfolio of projects and teams.
This is a senior leadership position focused on commercial strategy, risk management, governance and business performance, rather than day-to-day project QS responsibilities.
The Role
As Commercial Lead, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of the Power & Renewables business unit, working closely with senior leadership to drive growth, protect margins and manage commercial and contractual risk.
You will oversee a growing commercial function, currently consisting of Commercial Managers and a team of approximately 20 QS professionals, with the wider business expected to expand significantly over the coming years.
The role will involve:
-
Providing strategic commercial leadership across the Power & Renewables business unit.
-
Overseeing commercial performance across multiple projects, frameworks and business areas.
-
Leading commercial strategy from tender and contract award through to project completion and final account.
-
Managing commercial, contractual, financial and programme risk at a senior level.
-
Driving revenue, margin, cashflow and overall commercial performance.
-
Providing senior oversight of contract management, cost control and commercial governance.
-
Supporting tender strategy, contract negotiations and opportunity assessment.
-
Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Planning and Project teams to ensure strong project delivery.
-
Managing and developing a high-performing commercial team.
-
Building strong relationships with key clients and supporting the growth of major framework agreements.
-
Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and providing clear recommendations to senior leadership.
-
Supporting the continued expansion of the Power & Renewables business across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
-
Promoting a strong commercial culture, accountability and continuous improvement across the wider team.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced commercial leader who can operate comfortably at a strategic and senior stakeholder level.
You'll ideally have:
-
Proven experience in a senior Commercial Lead, Commercial Manager, Senior QS or equivalent leadership position.
-
A strong background within power, energy, renewables, infrastructure or major engineering/construction projects.
-
Strong knowledge of contracts, commercial strategy, risk management and project governance.
-
Experience leading and developing commercial teams.
-
The confidence and gravitas to operate in senior client and stakeholder meetings.
-
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
-
A strategic mindset, with the ability to look beyond individual projects and understand wider business risk and opportunity.
-
Strong commercial and financial awareness.
-
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
-
Flexibility to travel regularly across the UK and Ireland.
What's on Offer
-
Up to €120,000 base salary, with flexibility for the right candidate.
-
30% performance-related bonus.
-
Company car / car allowance.
-
Business travel fully covered.
-
Pension contribution.
-
Opportunity to take a senior leadership position within a rapidly expanding Power & Renewables division.
-
Significant scope for progression as the business continues to expand across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
-
The opportunity to lead a high-performing commercial function and play a key role in the strategic growth of the business.
