Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across Scotland and the wider UK.

With a healthy pipeline of secured work and continued investment across Scotland, they are looking to strengthen their planning team with the appointment of a Planning Engineer.

About the Role

As a Planning Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful planning and delivery of major civil engineering projects, supporting project teams from pre-construction through to final completion.

Working closely with project managers, commercial teams and site delivery staff, you will develop and maintain project programmes, monitor progress against key milestones and identify opportunities to improve project performance.

This role would suit an experienced Planner or Planning Engineer with a background in major infrastructure, highways, water, energy or heavy civil engineering projects.


The key responsibilities for this Planning Engineer role are:

- Develop, maintain and update detailed construction programmes using Primavera P6 or equivalent planning software

- Produce tender programmes, baseline programmes and short-term look-ahead programmes

- Monitor project progress and identify programme risks, delays and opportunities

- Work closely with operational teams to develop recovery plans where required

- Produce programme reports, progress updates and critical path analysis

- Support project teams with sequencing, resource planning and delivery strategies

- Attend project meetings and provide programme updates to clients and senior management

- Assist with tender planning and bid submissions where required

- Ensure programmes comply with contractual requirements and project milestones

- Support continuous improvement across planning processes and project controls


Experience required for this Planning Engineer role are:

- Previous experience as a Planning Engineer or Planner within civil engineering or infrastructure

- Experience working on major infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects

- Strong knowledge of Primavera P6 or similar planning software

- Good understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery methodologies

- Experience producing project programmes and progress reports

- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

- Good understanding of NEC contracts and programme management principles


Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Planning Engineer role are:

- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar

- Experience across water, highways, rail or energy projects

- Knowledge of project controls and earned value reporting

- Working towards or holding membership with a relevant professional institution
