1:1 SEND Learning Support Assistant – Gateshead

A specialist-friendly SEND primary school in Gateshead is looking for a committed 1:1 SEND Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil who can present with challenging behaviour.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to move into education and gain meaningful experience supporting a child with additional needs.

What Will You Do?

As the pupil's 1:1 support, you'll help them navigate their school day and overcome barriers to learning.

You'll be responsible for:

• Supporting the pupil during lessons
• Encouraging engagement and participation
• Using positive behaviour approaches
• Supporting emotional regulation
• Building trust and rapport
• Encouraging positive friendships and interactions
• Helping develop independence
• Supporting the pupil to access classroom activities
• Working closely with teachers and other school staff

The Person We're Looking For

You don't need years of school experience. What matters most is your attitude, patience and ability to build a positive relationship with the pupil.

We're particularly interested in:

• Psychology graduates
• Education graduates
• Childhood Studies graduates
• Criminology or Sociology graduates
• Candidates with childcare or youth work experience
• Experienced Teaching Assistants

You'll need to be calm, reliable, patient and able to remain consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.
