Not every young person needs someone to have all the answers.

Sometimes, they just need someone who won't give up on them.

That's where you come in.

We're working with a specialist alternative provision in Gateshead that's looking for dedicated Behaviour Support Teaching Assistants to join the team this September. The setting supports secondary-aged pupils who have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and additional learning needs, using a trauma-informed and relationship-based approach.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals
  • Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence every day

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
  • Have a calm, resilient and positive approach
  • Understand that behaviour is communication
  • Enjoy building strong, consistent relationships
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or are willing to obtain one
  • Are available to work full-time from September

Ready to make a difference?

Success in this role isn't always measured by grades.

If you're ready to be that person, we'd love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
