Protocol Education is currently recruiting 7 Learning Support Assistants to work within a highly supportive and welcoming specialist school in Gateshead. The school caters for pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are committed to making a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people with complex needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Teaching Assistant who is looking to develop their skills within a specialist setting. While the role can be challenging at times, it is incredibly rewarding and offers the chance to support pupils in achieving their full potential every day.

What You Will Be Doing

As a PMLD Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties throughout the school day.
  • Assist students with communication, sensory learning activities, and personalised learning programmes.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide the highest standard of support.
  • Support pupils with personal care and medical needs where required.
  • Encourage independence, engagement, and participation in learning activities.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Use specialist resources and sensory approaches to enhance learning experiences.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential).
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, PMLD, or complex needs (desirable).
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • The ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
