SEND Learning Support Assistant | Complex Needs | Gateshead

A specialist SEND school in Gateshead is seeking a caring and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September.

The right person will understand the importance of building strong relationships with pupils and providing the consistency they need to feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Location: Gateshead
Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm / 4:30pm
Pay: £98–£120 per day

Your Responsibilities

You'll support pupils with a variety of complex needs, including:

  • Autism/ASC
  • Severe and moderate learning difficulties
  • Complex learning needs
  • Communication needs
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Physical and additional needs
  • SEMH and emotional regulation difficulties

You'll help pupils by:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support
  • Working with small groups
  • Supporting personalised learning
  • Encouraging communication
  • Developing independence
  • Supporting sensory regulation
  • Managing transitions and routines
  • Promoting positive behaviour
  • Following individual support plans
  • Supporting classroom activities
  • Working with teachers and other professionals
  • Recording and communicating pupil progress

You'll need to be resilient and patient, particularly when pupils are struggling.

Experience within SEND, education, care, nursing, youth work or support work would be advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
