Protocol Education is recruiting a caring and dedicated SEND Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Gateshead. This is a a September start until the end of the academic year.

The Role

As a SEND Support Assistant, you will support students with a range of additional learning needs, helping them to access lessons, build confidence, and become more independent.

You will work closely with teachers, the SEND department, and pastoral staff to provide tailored support both in and out of the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Helping students with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and other additional learning needs.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in lessons.
  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Building positive relationships that help students feel confident and supported.
  • Promoting independence and celebrating student progress.

Experience working with children or young people with SEND is highly desirable, whether in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting. However, we also welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
