SEND Teaching Assistant | Complex Needs | Gateshead

A specialist SEND school in Gateshead is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex and additional needs.

This role is ideal for someone who understands that every pupil is different and can adapt their approach to help children overcome barriers to learning and development.

Location: Gateshead
Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm / 4:30pm
Pay: £98–£120 per day

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Helping pupils engage with learning
  • Supporting communication and interaction
  • Encouraging independence and confidence
  • Supporting sensory and emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils manage transitions and routines
  • Promoting positive behaviour
  • Following individualised support plans
  • Supporting personal development and life skills
  • Working alongside teachers and specialist staff
  • Monitoring and sharing pupil progress

The Pupils

You may support children and young people with:

  • Autism/ASC
  • SLD/MLD
  • Complex learning needs
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Physical needs
  • SEMH and emotional regulation needs

The Person

You don't need to be a qualified teacher.

We're looking for someone who is resilient, patient and reliable, with the ability to remain calm when situations become challenging.

Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker, Youth Worker, Nurse or within a SEND setting would be beneficial.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
