Speech & Language Intervention Support – Gateshead SEND School
Specialist Communication Support Within a SEND Setting
A specialist SEND school in Gateshead is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Speech & Language Support Assistant to provide targeted communication support to pupils across the school.
The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff to deliver structured interventions and embed effective communication strategies throughout the school day.
Location: Gateshead
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday–Friday
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions
- Support pupils with speech and language difficulties
- Develop receptive and expressive language skills
- Support vocabulary and comprehension
- Encourage social communication
- Promote positive interaction
- Implement communication strategies within the classroom
- Support pupils to access learning
- Record pupil engagement and progress
- Work closely with teachers and SEND staff
- Adapt activities according to individual needs
Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A Speech & Language, Communication, Education or SEND qualification
- Experience supporting children with communication needs
- Knowledge of SEND
- Experience delivering interventions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A patient and consistent approach
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience supporting pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication, complex SEND or social communication difficulties would be beneficial.
