Speech, Language & Communication Support – Gateshead
Help Children Overcome Barriers to Communication
A welcoming specialist SEND school in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated professional to provide Speech, Language and Communication support to pupils across the school.
This role is ideal for someone with a Speech & Language qualification, relevant degree or practical experience supporting children with communication needs.
Location: Gateshead
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday–Friday
Start Date: ASAP
The Role
You'll play an important part in helping pupils develop the communication skills they need to engage with learning, build relationships and become more independent.
You will:
- Provide targeted 1:1 communication support
- Deliver small-group interventions
- Support speech and language development
- Develop pupils' vocabulary and understanding
- Encourage expressive communication
- Support social communication skills
- Use appropriate communication strategies
- Help pupils access lessons and school routines
- Work closely with teaching staff
- Monitor and record progress
Experience You'll Need
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience of:
- Speech and Language support
- SEND education
- Autism
- Communication difficulties
- Non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils
- Social communication needs
- Delivering structured interventions
A relevant Speech & Language, Communication, Education or SEND qualification would be advantageous.
The Ideal Candidate
You'll be calm, patient and consistent, with the ability to adapt your communication style to individual pupils.
Most importantly, you'll have a genuine passion for helping children overcome communication barriers.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
