Graduate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Newcastle
Are you a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in SEN before starting your career?
A specialist SEN school in Newcastle is looking for a compassionate and motivated Graduate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil throughout the school day.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate who wants to develop practical experience working with children with additional needs while building skills that could support a future career in Psychology, Teaching, Education, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Social Work.

Role: Graduate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant
Setting: SEN School
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term, with potential for a permanent position
Your Role
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil
- Help the pupil access lessons and activities
- Encourage engagement, confidence and independence
- Support communication and emotional regulation
- Help manage transitions throughout the school day
- Adapt activities to suit individual needs
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Work closely with teachers and SEN staff
- Follow individual support plans and contribute to progress
Who We're Looking For
We’re particularly interested in graduates with an interest in SEND, child development, psychology, education or behaviour.
Relevant degrees could include:
- Psychology
- Education
- Childhood Studies
- Sociology
- Criminology
- Health & Social Care
- Other related subjects
You don't necessarily need previous SEN experience. We’re looking for someone who is patient, empathetic, reliable and genuinely passionate about supporting children.
Experience through volunteering, tutoring, youth work, care work or university placements would be beneficial.
