Graduate SEN Learning Support Assistant – Newcastle

Are you a graduate looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference to a child’s education?

A specialist SEN school in Newcastle is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Graduate SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate to gain valuable hands-on experience in a specialist setting, developing an understanding of SEND, behaviour, communication and child development.

The role would be particularly valuable for graduates considering careers in Psychology, Teaching, Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Social Work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Helping the pupil access lessons and learning activities
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement
  • Supporting communication and social development
  • Helping the pupil manage transitions and changes in routine
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Building a trusting and positive relationship
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SEN team
  • Following individual support strategies and contributing to progress

Who We're Looking For

We're particularly keen to hear from graduates with an interest in SEND, psychology, education or child development.

Relevant degrees could include:

  • Psychology
  • Education
  • Childhood Studies
  • Sociology
  • Criminology
  • Health & Social Care
  • Other related subjects

You don't need extensive SEN experience. The school is looking for someone who is patient, resilient, caring and eager to learn.

Previous experience with children through volunteering, tutoring, youth work, care work or placements would be beneficial.
