We are recruiting for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading civil engineering contractor on a major £40-50 million highways infrastructure project based in Hereford.
This is an excellent opportunity to take full commercial responsibility for a flagship scheme, leading a commercial team from project mobilisation through to completion. The project is expected to run for approximately 2½ years, offering long-term stability and career progression.
The Role
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial delivery of the project, reporting directly to senior management. You will lead a commercial team consisting of two Quantity Surveyors and two Graduate Quantity Surveyors, ensuring the project is delivered successfully while maintaining strong commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities

Lead all commercial activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage, mentor and develop the commercial team.

Administer and manage the project under an NEC Option A (Fixed Price) contract.

Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, valuations, cost reporting and final accounts.

Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and the wider project team.

Provide accurate commercial reporting to senior leadership.
Requirements

Previous experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor, or an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a leadership role.

Ideally 10+ years' experience within civil engineering, with highways experience highly desirable.

Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly Option A.

Proven ability to lead and develop commercial teams.

Excellent commercial awareness, negotiation and communication skills.
