A well-established civil engineering contractor specialising in High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) infrastructure projects across the UK are looking to expand. Since 1992, the company has built a strong reputation delivering complex substation, cable installation and power infrastructure projects for major clients including National Grid, DNOs, Tier 1 contractors and independent developers.
Due to continued organic growth and an increasing project workload, they are looking to strengthen its operational team with the appointment of an experienced Site Engineer to support the delivery of HV substation civil engineering works across the UK.
The Role
This is a hands-on site-based engineering position working predominantly on HV substation civils projects. This is not a railway engineering role. The successful candidate will be expected to operate confidently at Site Engineer level, taking ownership of engineering activities on site while working closely with Project Managers, site teams, clients and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out and surveying works
- Managing Quality Assurance processes and ITPs
- Producing take-offs and assisting with project planning
- Material requisitions and ordering
- Resolving technical queries on site
- Supporting Project Managers with day-to-day project delivery
- Liaising directly with clients and stakeholders
- Monitoring progress and ensuring works are delivered to specification
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and quality
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering
- Strong setting-out experience
- Experience delivering infrastructure, utilities, power or substation-related projects
- Ability to manage engineering responsibilities independently on site
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel and work away from home throughout the UK
Desirable
- National Grid / power sector experience
- Relevant National Grid authorisations and competencies
- Temporary Works Supervisor
- SMSTS
- HSG47 / Safe Digging training
- Additional power sector certifications and industry-specific tickets
Location & Travel
This is a UK-wide role supporting projects across England, Scotland and Wales.
While my client has offices in Manchester and Glasgow, candidates must be prepared to work wherever the project requires. Regular travel and working away from home are fundamental requirements of the position.

Working Hours
Typical site hours are approximately: 07:30 - 17:00
This is a salaried role, and candidates should be comfortable working the hours required to support successful project delivery.
