Technical Project Manager

Location: Manchester (3 days onsite) / Home (2 days remote) Salary: £40,000-£45,000 per annum Job Type: Full time, permanent

ABOUT US

Avensure is a UK-wide provider of Employment Law, Human Resources and Health & Safety outsourced services. Our in-house software team develops and improves the systems used by our internal service teams and 4,000+ SME clients.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to work alongside our Head of Software Engineering, taking day-to-day ownership of the delivery process so the engineering team can stay focused on building.

The role splits across two areas. The first is delivery and ticket management: running the boards in Jira, keeping documentation current in Confluence, triaging incoming requests from internal teams, chasing requirements to a point where they are ready to be worked on, and making sure work moves through the sprint rather than stalling. The second is recruitment: supporting the hiring process for the software team, from writing and posting adverts through to screening applications, coordinating interviews and keeping candidates informed.

You will work on complex web applications, including CRM-style systems, HR tools, holiday management, rota systems and other business-critical platforms. This is a hands-on coordination role in a small team, where you will be the person who knows the status of everything and keeps it moving.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain Jira boards - backlog grooming, ticket creation, prioritisation, sprint planning and reporting
  • Triage requests from internal stakeholders and turn vague asks into clear, actionable tickets
  • Chase requirements, acceptance criteria and sign-off from stakeholders before work reaches the team
  • Track progress against delivery timelines and flag risks and blockers early
  • Keep project and process documentation up to date in Confluence
  • Run stand-ups, sprint ceremonies and status reporting to the Head of Software Engineering
  • Coordinate releases and communicate changes to affected internal teams
  • Support recruitment for the software team - drafting adverts, managing job board listings, screening CVs and shortlisting
  • Coordinate interview scheduling between candidates, hiring managers and the wider team
  • Manage candidate communication and keep the hiring pipeline organised and moving
  • Support onboarding of new technical hires, including equipment, access and first-week planning

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be based in Manchester
  • Demonstrable experience in a project management, delivery or technical coordination role within software
  • Strong practical experience with Jira and Confluence
  • Experience running Agile or Scrum ceremonies and managing a sprint backlog
  • Ability to write clear, well-scoped tickets and hold stakeholders to account on requirements
  • Confident communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Highly organised, with the ability to track multiple workstreams without losing detail
  • Comfortable chasing people and following things through to completion
  • Willingness to take on recruitment and coordination work alongside delivery
  • Comfortable working in a small team where your ideas and input will have a real impact

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience supporting or running technical recruitment processes
  • Experience with CRM, HR systems, holiday management, rota systems or similar platforms
  • Technical background or working understanding of web development
  • Agile, Scrum or PRINCE2 certification
  • Experience with release coordination and change communication

OUR OFFER

  • Salary of £40,000-£45,000 per annum
  • Any laptop of your choice, including Mac or Linux
  • 25 days of holidays, plus 1 additional day for each successfully completed year at Avensure, capped at 6 years
  • 3% pension contribution
  • Private Medical Insurance, plus option to add family at a discounted rate
  • Death in Service Insurance, 4 x salary
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Free breakfast days
  • Gym discounted membership scheme
  • Work from home policy (2 days a week remote)
  • Regular employee social events
  • Help and support from your new team

WHY JOIN US?

This is a great opportunity for an organised and driven Technical Project Manager based in Manchester to join a small but experienced software team, work directly with the Head of Software Engineering and take real ownership of how work gets delivered.
